Everyone loves summer vacation on Maui! June, July, and August are very popular months for a visit to Maui–particularly for families, as most children have school break during this time. There are loads of things to do on Maui in summer, including some of the island’s most popular annual events and festivals. If you are planning a summer visit, here are a few of the many Maui events you can enjoy.

MAUI EVENTS IN JUNE

Maui County AgFest: This annual day-long event helps raise awareness about Maui’s agricultural products and includes the island’s largest farmer’s market, children’s activities, farm animal exhibit, food booths, pancake breakfast, and Grand Taste event.

Waʻa Kiakahi Canoe Festival: Each year, the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association hosts Waʻa Kiakahi on Kaanapali Beach, an event celebrating the traditional Hawaiian skills related to sailing outrigger canoes. Festivities include canoe races, demonstrations, and sailing-canoe rides. Beautiful to watch!

40th Annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival: This longstanding Maui festival features wine tasting seminars, cooking demos, the Kapalua Seafood Festival and fabulous Grand Tasting event. Join renowned winemakers and celebrity chefs for this delicious weekend. One of the most popular things to do on Maui in summer!

Kamehameha Day Celebration: June 11 is Kamehameha Day, a Hawaii state holiday honoring Kamehameha, who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and became Hawaii’s first king. The annual Kamehameha Day celebration includes a colorful parade and a weekend festival (ho’olaulea) in Lahaina with food and craft booths, Hawaiian music, and hula. Maui Film Festival: This popular annual film fest features The Taste of Wailea and Taste of Chocolate culinary events, gala parties galore, and film screenings at the “Celestial Cinema”– a 50-foot movie screen set outdoors under the stars on the Wailea Gold golf course. But those aren’t the only stars you’ll see at this event. This is a great place for celebrity sightings!

30th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key (Ki Hoalu) Guitar Festival: This annual outdoor concert festival is free and features some of Hawaii’s top slack key guitar musicians, along with food and craft booths. A fun afternoon with great Hawaiian music! 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului.

Things To Do on Maui in Summer: cyclist on bike

Cycle To The Sun: Attention serious cyclists…are you up for one of the most difficult bike rides in the world? The annual Cycle To The Sun starts at sea level in Paia and climbs 10,000 feet (and 36 miles) on the longest, steepest paved road on the planet to the top of Haleakala. Yeah, that’s right…this is not your grandma’s bike ride! (Well, not most grandmas, anyway.)

Things To Do on Maui in Summer: Fireworks

4th of July Fireworks: The annual Independence Day celebration in Lahaina is always great fun with live bands, lots of festivities, and food and drink specials at many of Lahaina’s eateries. At 8 pm, there is a spectacular aerial fireworks show over the ocean fronting Lahaina –- the only public 4th of July fireworks display on the island. So grab a place to sit along the shoreline and look to the sky

MAUI EVENTS IN AUGUST

Things To Do on Maui in Summer: vendor booths at Maui Coffee Festival

14th Annual Seed To Cup Coffee Festival: Hosted by the Maui Coffee Association, this event is all about great coffee! Meet local coffee farmers and roasters, watch coffee processing demos, and enjoy plenty of opportunities to taste various coffees (pictured) and coffee-inspired foods. Live entertainment all day.

Hana Cultural Center & Museum Ho’olaulea: ho’olaulea is a festival, and this annual event is a wonderful celebration of the people, culture and history of Hana. It’s an authentic slice of Hawaii, featuring Hawaiian music, food, farmers market, craft booths, and more.
